| Job Summary | ||
Exciting design opportunity available with our UL Verification Services team at the UL Springboard office in Newton, Iowa! Utilize your project handling skills and product design knowledge! With minimum supervision, independently manage execution and timely completion of dishwasher design projects. Projects range in scope from simple quality improvement changes to complete concept-to-production platform products. Establish test programs for complex product investigations and prepare reports for clients. Develop UL requirements, test methods, and test equipment for complex, new or unusual products.
If you have: * A University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or applicable discipline from an ABET accredited program * Eight (8) years directly related work experience including dishwasher design * Demonstrated ability to use Design for Six Sigma and apply Lean Manufacturing principals * Working knowledge of ProEngineer

| Job Responsibility | ||
Independently determines project scope, develops a preliminary plan of investigation, and determines project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements by analyzing client input, available supplemental data, and product construction. Projects may include frequent travel to conduct or witness tests at client sites. Coordinates complex laboratory activities by preparing data sheets and instructions to technicians and by establishing completion dates. Coordinates administrative aspects of project management. Uses customer input and marketing requirements to create comprehensive development specifications that fully define the end product as well as the processes and procedures necessary to verify compliance. Develops mechanical designs that meet customer, regulatory and operational requirements. Projects may include significant customer interaction including travel for on-site support. Utilizes advanced analytical computer tools including structural finite element analysis, multi-body dynamics, and computational fluid dynamics to promote robust product designs. Coordinates project resources to deliver results on schedule. Utilizes project management tools such as planning, Gantt charts, risk management and status meetings in execution of projects. Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing and presenting reports. Occasionally responsible for coordinating resources on some projects and contributing on other projects. Prepares engineering calculations and analyses in the process of assessing and optimizing design proposals. Applies statistical tolerancing along with DFM/DFA tools in developing designs that accommodate variation associated with applicable manufacturing processes. Applies verification tools such as DFMEAs to ensure robust product designs. Provides technical assistance to other Springboard functional areas including consulting on reliability test plans and interpretation of performance lab test results. Performs other duties as directed.

| Required Skills | ||
University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or applicable discipline from an ABET accredited program plus eight (8) years directly related work experience. Dishwasher design experience including thorough knowledge of applicable thermodynamics and associated manufacturing processes. Working knowledge of ProEngineer. In-depth knowledge of materials typically used in appliance, medical, and agricultural industries. Demonstrated ability to complete projects on budget and on schedule. Demonstrated ability to apply project-handling concepts in use in areas of expertise, including application to complex, new, or unusual products. Working knowledge of industry issues, needs, and problems.
