The VP, People Team will help shape and execute the People Team and talent strategies across UnitedHealth Group's Policy and External Affairs, Compliance and Legal Affairs, and Enterprise Sustainability teams, creating a wealth of opportunity for an experienced HR strategic partner to contribute across a broad range of priorities, including workforce strategy, culture building, organization effectiveness, leadership bench strength, and employee experience.

Based in our Washington, DC office, you will leverage organizational development and leadership experience to help support the organization's evolution and future growth. As a key leader within the UnitedHealth Group people team, you will have opportunities to influence across not only a direct team but also across the broader UnitedHealth Group People Team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • You will work closely with the executive leadership team of these groups as a trusted advisor to help maintain a high performing culture by driving strategic and proactive talent acquisition, development and reward programs that are closely aligned to the overall business and people strategy.
  • Proactively provide advice, guidance, and leadership to executives on organizational design, change management and/or people team challenges related to growth, acquisitions, or the development of new businesses.
  • Drives business talent strategy and plans by apply talent acquisition, workforce planning, total rewards and inclusion and diversity practices to drive talent outcomes.
  • Ensure that the right talent acquisition strategies are in place by developing/enhancing programs/processes to identify, recruit, develop, integrate, and retain top talent across the company.
  • You will be responsible for effective succession/organization workforce planning processes and an understanding of the competitive landscape.
  • Provide leadership to a small People team, in support of these business functions. Ensure that the team is business savvy, proactive, responsive and results focused.
  • Partner with the PBP leadership team to create and reinforce a culture that empowers teams, values innovation, emphasizes people and performance management, employee engagement and values diversity, equity, and inclusion

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years' experience leading People Teams, Human Resources, Strategy and/or HR Centers of Excellence
  • Proven ethical leadership with the commitment to lead by example, acting with honesty and integrity, using our values as a foundation.
  • Demonstrated systems thinking across silos, including influencing leaders in shaping and implementing long-term business strategies aligned with people strategies.
  • Extensive experience in problem solving in a fast-paced, rapidly changing and ambiguous, complex environment.
  • Experience translating bold ideas into results with the passion to pursue what's possible beyond what has been done before while maintaining a relentless focus on execution.
  • Experience with mergers & acquisitions, including typical processes, leadership assessment, pre-close partnership, and organizational/cultural integration.
  • Experience leading organization design and implementing change, moving with speed to capture opportunity.
  • Experience successfully navigating a highly matrix environment at a large, complex organization, understanding how the different pieces fit together across the enterprise to deliver for the employee and the customer. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain solid relationships across the enterprise.
  • Proven successful consulting and interpersonal agility competencies demonstrated across various types of critical executive stakeholders.
  • Experience developing talent strategies and executing plans aligned with the culture and overall employee experience to drive business outcomes.
  • Experience demonstrating business fluency and knowledge.
  • Demonstrated competence in inspiring inclusive leadership by championing diversity, developing a solid leadership bench and inspiring and unlocking the full potential performance in others.
  • Proven analytically incisive by quickly connecting the dots and applying data and analytics to influence decision making and business outcomes.
  • Experience developing and implementing workforce strategy, aligned with and driving business outcomes.
  • Embodies resilient fighting spirit by showing deep passion around the work and company's mission, having restlessness around impact and meaningful change, and demonstrating a shared desire to win.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters in HR/OD or MBA
  • Demonstrated history of positive employee experience through all aspects of People work
  • Experience working within a global matrixed environment
  • Experience and expertise in technology, healthcare, insurance or related industry
