Part of the specific products/services team, you will work in Electrification Distribution Solutions in Mebane, North Carolina, creating and evaluating the design of equipment, systems, or installations, including specifications for manufacturing, fabrication or construction. You will creates, modify, and analyze the design of equipment, systems, or installations, including specifications for manufacturing, fabrication, or construction, for assignments of medium to high complexity, using established solutions.

Your responsibilities

  • Creates/reviews complete project documents for conformity, safety, and quality assurance
  • Reviews, adjusts design as necessary based on output of design to meet the contractual obligations
  • Optimizes designs to meet updated standards, incorporating new products, components, and functionalities
  • Seeks feedback from the customer to drive and deliver improvement of technical solutions
  • Contributes to the preparation of specific aspects of design assignments to meet the contractual obligations, adhering to relevant standards, safety, cybersecurity, and quality
  • Participates in project meetings and presents specific aspects of design assignments
  • Applies basic design thinking or design for excellence concepts in projects
  • Performs project peer-reviews, utilizing checklists to perform design verification according to applicable standards and engineering guidelines
  • Contributes to and shares experiences in workshops pertaining to engineering design, tools, and processes
  • Shares best practices and lessons-learned documentation across different projects
  • Creates standard processes and tools to promote the reuse of technical solutions, innovation, and productivity in the design team
  • Ensures 2D, 3D, and other modelling tools usage to promote innovation and productivity
  • Reports process and tool inefficiencies and suggests ideas for improvement
  • Assesses and addresses technical risks and opportunities
  • Ensures that Bill of Materials (BOM) for the project meets contractual obligations and project gross margin requirements by not generating Project Left-Over Material (PLOM)
  • Identifies and implements variation requests to support contract claims based on the approval from project manager
  • Creates work plans and cost estimates for the portfolio of projects, in consultation with respective project managers
  • Ensures quality and timely implementation of projects within the targeted cost
  • Prepares RFQs to meet contractual requirements and provides technical evaluation of suppliers' proposals
  • Collaborates with the supply chain function and project manager(s) to meet the contractual requirements
  • Coordinates with manufacturing and testing functions to ensure the designs are appropriately manufactured / staged and tested
  • Ensures the engineering deliverables as built are updated
  • Coordinates with commissioning / service functions to ensure the designs are appropriately installed and commissioned and ensures the engineering deliverables are updated post installation & commissioning (if applicable as part of the contract)
Your background

  • Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Design or equivalent with 1 plus year in Mechanical Design
  • Skills to be expert with Design Thinking, Design Verification, Fail-Safe Philosophy
  • Cyber Security, Agile Methodology, Planning & Prioritizing
  • Risk Management
  • Influencing without Authority
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
