Summary/Primary Purpose: Lee County, Iowa is one of the highest food insecure counties in Iowa. During the school year children are fed at school with breakfast and lunch, however, in the summer many children go without proper nutrition. Working in conjunction with the Keokuk School District, The Salvation Army provides a meal per day to children throughout Lee County who are not able to walk to the school for a free summer lunch.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. This position is responsible to drive The Salvation Army vehicle following the EDS Canteen to each pick-up food to the distribution sites, and return food to the school.
  2. Assist with the serving of food and/or preparing a place for the children to eat.
  3. Build quality healthy relationships with children from the local community through positive interaction.
  4. Be a positive example and reflect the love of Jesus Christ, keeping this environment as uplifting and safe as possible.
  5. Maintain positive work atmosphere through appropriate conflict management, courteous demeanor, and professional and appropriate communication practices.
  6. Ensure children are eating the required food and assist them with clean-up.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned as related to the Mobile Outreach Meals program.
  8. This position may be required to work hours outside of normal business hours, to include holidays and weekends.
  9. Driving is an essential requirement for this position.
  10. All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

  1. Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
  2. Basic skills in Microsoft software to the ability to access payroll, timekeeping, and personal data via a web-based system
  3. Team player, self-starter and performs well with minimal supervision.
  4. Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, attention to details and filing
  5. Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships
  6. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.

Other Qualifications:

  • Must pass all applicable background checks.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.
  • Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.
  • Attend the required Serve Safe program which the School District will provide.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to regularly lift up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions: The majority of the workday will be outdoors to serve food to children and may be exposed to varying weather conditions and noise levels that are low to moderate.
