The College of Nursing invites candidates to apply for a part-time position in Des Moines, Iowa as a SIM-IA Field Educator. This position is responsible for providing technical and/or clinical knowledge and expertise in emergency medical services-based scenarios and/or nursing scenarios in a simulated environment. The SIM-IA Field Educator will serve as a simulation operator and clinical expert, as well as supporting the Lead Field Educator. This position must facilitate simulation learning and participates in debriefings as well as other learning methodologies. This position will require time outside of the 8:00 am - 5:00 pm workday and includes travel and occasional overnight travel.

Simulation in Motion-Iowa (SIM-IA)

This new program focused on providing clinical simulation education for EMS and other healthcare providers across the state. SIM-IA is launching three mobile simulation labs in 2022 and will be staffed with registered nurses, paramedics, and EMTs to provide state-of-the-art education with high volume, high risk, and/or low frequency emergencies to improve patient care, clinical outcomes, and provider experiences. Key Areas of Responsibility

Primary work will be in Des Moines, Iowa and in that area of the State of Iowa.

Develop Instructional Materials

* May assist with piloting and revision of instructional materials.

Instruct, Train, Consult, Support

* Coordinate and provide support in setup and operation of simulation experiences (including human patient simulators), technical equipment, and a wide variety of clinical scenarios.

* Maintain knowledge of current simulation technology.

* Attend periodic in-services and conferences.

Facilities/Technology Management

* Assist with set up, organization, and maintenance of simulation environment (truck), clinical simulation equipment/supplies, and recording/documentation systems.

* Performs any necessary physical setup/tear down of the truck and simulation environments required to facilitate trainings.

* Assists in ensuring that the truck is appropriately stocked, cleaned, and fueled for the subsequent training event.

* Prepare simulation spaces and equipment for simulation staging by reviewing the scenario, script, and computer operator roles, reviewing the activity's learning objectives.

* Diagnose and problem-solve issues with simulators and other equipment with support of the Lead Field Educator.

* Consults with manufacture tech support as needed.

* Use software that supports simulation activities, such as SimCapture, ScenarioCloud, LLeap, and other platforms.

Operational Management (Financial and Administrative)

* If licensed appropriately, may drive the SIM-IA simulation truck to and from the training site in Des Moines, Iowa.

* Ensures the required course documentation and data collection is completed.

* Support outreach activities, including truck tours, recruitment events and philanthropic visits.

* Inform Lead Field Educator and/or SIM-IA Program Coordinator regarding observed maintenance needs.

* Provide input for purchasing materials related to operations.

* Assist in the check-in and check-out of simulation equipment, including training in the proper use of the equipment at check out and inspection and cleaning at check in.

Supervision

* May provide functional supervision for students.

Required Qualifications:

* Must work in the Des Moines area in the State of Iowa.

* High school diploma and current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician, or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic by the Iowa Department of Public Health, Bureau of Emergency and Trauma Services, or current license as registered nurse by Iowa Board of Nursing.

* Current course completion card in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association.

* Demonstrated skills to troubleshoot and investigate operational difficulties with medical, computer and/or audiovisual equipment.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills: demonstrated by the ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information and needs through appropriate communication methods and behaviors to provide excellent customer service and maintain working relationships.

* Demonstrated ability to interact positively with a diverse population.

* Proficient in computer software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite and Zoom.

* Ability to lift, push, pull and or pull a minimum of 50 pounds and occasionally up to 125 pounds. Sit, squat, kneel, crawl, twist, reach, bend, stoop, stand, and step into and out of an ambulance. Have sufficient personal mobility to complete work at various locations.

* Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple requests.

* Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a complex learning environment where disruptions to workflow are common.

* Valid Driver's License and the ability to meet and maintain University Fleet Safety Standards.

Desired Qualifications:

* Patient care experience in emergency medical services, hospital emergency departments, hospital nursing units, critical/intensive care, and/or aeromedical settings. Experience in a setting that is relevant to the specialty training that they will be providing (ex: neonatology, obstetrics, burn care, etc.).

* Familiarity with health care settings.

* Basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.

* Previous experience with clinical simulation equipment or other complex technological devices.

* Previous work experience in an academic environment and/or academic healthcare environment.

* Knowledge of University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics policies, procedures, and regulations.

Salaryrange $19.80 - $28.00 and hours will vary per week.
