MISSION:

The Senior Product Engineer is responsible for leading the design of a product, and engineering activities associated with current products. This includes managing product improvement, resolving performance/durability issues, warranty issues, and working through customer needs that stem from dissatisfaction or adjustment requests. They will also support the development and implementation of cost-reduction opportunities and business continuity projects.

KEY EXPECTATIONS:

  • Be a technical lead for product design and assigned clients
  • Point of contact for product engineering matters with external customers and internal partners for any products within scope
  • Provide technical expertise to engineering team for bearings, seals and gears
  • Lead small projects related to Continuous improvement
  • Review and approve drawings
  • Develop and investigate technical solutions that could generate cost savings

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform root cause analysis on product-related issues.
  • Work with components during failure investigation.
  • Develop technical solutions to resolve issues.
  • Develop and update DFMEA and DVP&R to evaluate risk of proposed design/technical solutions
  • Perform validation activities required for proposed design solutions (hand calculations, FEA, lab test, field test)
  • Lead design reviews
  • Evaluate impact of proposed changes with different stakeholders (cost, manufacturing, service)
  • Provide updates to CES team to maintain CIM database
  • Ensure technical documentation is up to date (models, drawings, List of platforms, list of top levels and related ECN)
  • Initiate ECR/ECN process and ensure proper execution of engineering tasks
  • Provide technical support to the procurement team (discussion with suppliers, DPARs) and to the plant (for key manufacturing processes: bearing setting, seal assembly, paint)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • 10+ years of experience as mechanical engineer
  • PE (Professional Engineer License), you will need to sign off on designs
  • Experience in heavy machinery strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of mechanical design, materials, and manufacturing process (such as machining, welding and casting)
  • Knowledge of product development process (PDP) and geometrical tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Proficient in design using 3D software (CREO is an asset)
  • Ability to solve problems using a structured methodology
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, several priorities with autonomy and initiative
  • Strong collaboration skills and willingness to help others
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical failure
