Specialty Nurse(RN)

Penn Avenue General Surgery (Out-Patient)

Full-time Benefit Package

Shift: Monday to Friday / 8 am to 4:30 pm

**$5,000.00 Sign-on Bonus


Responsibilities

Your role as a Specialty RN with UnityPoint Clinic Out-Patient General Surgery will involve a combination of clinical and administrative responsibilities, playing a key role in supporting the delivery of patient care in a non-operating room setting, such as the following:

Conduct thorough assessments of patients, including obtaining medical histories, reviewing current medications, and assessing vital signs.

Provide education to patients and their families about their surgical condition, treatment options, and postoperative care. Instruct patients on wound care, medication management, and any necessary lifestyle modifications.

Assist in minor surgical procedures, wound care, and other treatments as directed by the surgeon.

Prepare patients for surgery by reviewing preoperative instructions, verifying necessary tests and clearances, and coordinating any preoperative medications.

Monitor and assess patients after surgery for complications or adverse reactions. Provide postoperative care instructions, including information on follow-up appointments and signs of potential issues.

Advocate for patients by addressing their concerns, coordinating with other healthcare providers, and ensuring a positive patient experience.

Schedule patient appointments for consultations, follow-ups, and procedures. Coordinate appointments with other healthcare providers as needed.

Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and education in electronic health records (EHR).

Communicate effectively with patients, families, surgeons, and other healthcare team members.

Coordinate referrals to specialists, diagnostic tests, and other healthcare services. Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless patient care.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and clinic processes. Identify areas for improvement and contribute to implementing solutions.

Qualifications

Current License to Practice, RN (State of Iowa).

5 years of RN experience preferred, and specialty certification and/or BSN preferred.

BLS and Mandatory Reporter certification.
