Dam, Levee & Civil Works Project Manager

HDR currently has an opening for a Dam, Levee & Civil Works Project Manager to join our Nebraska/Iowa team. Our team focuses on the design of major civil works programs including upgrades, improvements, design, planning and construction of dams, levees, and water conveyance infrastructure. As a Project Manager, this individual will be called upon for managing, developing, and overseeing project staff and coordinating with various local and regional teams for project delivery needs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plan, direct and oversee all aspects of large scale multi-discipline and multi-benefit projects with a high degree of technical complexity, including planning, design, construction, and program management.
  • Complete dam design/dam safety management including civil, structural, and hydraulic components.
    Provide technical support either individually or as part of a project team on safety evaluations, civil design, and risk evaluations for dam and hydraulic structures projects.
  • Conduct analyses to develop alternatives, design options, or recommendations for dam, levee, and civil works projects.
    Prepare cost estimates, design drawings, and specifications for projects.
  • Collect, assimilate, and present data in technical and non-technical reports.
  • Lead client management and the technical development of project proposals and cost estimates.
  • Work independently in addition to planning, organizing and assisting teams of professionals and technicians dependent on project/task.
  • Mentor mid- and junior-level staff across a variety of disciplines.
  • Oversee a variety of project types including planning, design, inspection and construction management of interior drainage, riverine and coastal flood risk management projects; dams and reservoirs; ecosystem restoration; drainage; and general site civil.
  • Coordinate projects with inter-related disciplines such as hydrology, hydraulics, structural, geology, geotechnical, civil, mechanical, CADD and GIS. The position will also require coordination with HDR's other regional and corporate business class technical directors and advisors.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in engineering. Civil or Geotechnical Engineer highly preferred.

* A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in dam, levee and civil works engineering projects including demonstrated project management skills.

* Advanced knowledge of dam, levee, and civil works engineering tools and techniques including application of dam and civil works related structural analysis and risk analysis.

* Must have the ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, project management and communication (both written and verbal) skills

* An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

* Nebraska or Iowa PE registration required or the ability to receive your PE within 6 months.
