Overview

Interstates is currently seeking a Safety Intern to join our Interstates Construction Team on our National Traveling Team. The Safety Intern will be responsible for assisting the Safety Managers. This individual will also help our customers achieve a successful and safe work zone, that meets all owner/regulatory requirements, as defined in the primary job duties section, below. Responsibilities

SUMMARY: The Safety Intern assists the Safety Managers in providing quality service to their customers. The goal is to assist our customers to achieve a successful and safe and healthy work zone that meets all owner/regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists in providing First Aid training and first aid on site
  • Reviews pre-job assessments and audits daily inspections of equipment
  • Helps with accident and near miss investigations that are led by the Superintendent/Foreman
  • Conducts Root Cause Analysis
  • Assists in conducting all inspections
  • Performing and helping with safety observations on a daily basis
  • Attends foreman meetings
  • Conducts site audits to assess our risk from hazards otherwise not addressed
  • Spends 80-90% of time on construction sites. Assisting the crews in observing, communicating, and growing the Interstates safety culture

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Studying for a degree in Occupational Safety or some other form of safety.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have the ability to motivate and achieve results through others in a team atmosphere and work cooperatively with all departments and personnel of Interstates Electric & Engineering Co., Inc. Ability to display and convey a positive image of self and the company to all individuals in daily duties. Must be capable of handling the work schedule of this position, which may include evenings and weekends.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: You will be assigned to one location , throughout the US the entirety of the summer.
