Job Title: Chief Financial Officer

Reports to: Baker Electric, Inc. President (with functional and fiduciary reporting relationship to CFO, EMCOR Construction Services)

Location: Des Moines, IA

FLSA Status: Full-Time / Exempt

Position Description. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key player in the leadership of Baker Electric, Inc., a subsidiary of publicly traded EMCOR Group, Inc., and is located in Des Moines, IA. The position is responsible for overseeing and managing operations within assigned divisions of the company, by providing oversight, direction and support to the division managers and their teams, for ensuring all are informed about business activities, performance, opportunities and recommended courses of action, and for advising the President, or other executives, of any issues that relate and impact the operations of the company.

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is part of the Executive team responsible for the development, design, operation, and improvement of the systems that create and deliver Baker systems and services and for leading appropriate change initiatives, as needed. The CFO communicates and stresses Baker Electric Values and Safety culture through all operations and systems so that it infiltrates business leaders and employee's actions.

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for directing the financial functions of the corporation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and other regulatory and advisory organizations in accordance with EMCOR's accounting policies, procedures and practices. The CFO is also accountable for the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve Company assets and report accurate financial results.

Leadership Responsibilities

The CFO is responsible for managing, directing and leading the Accounting, IT, Purchasing, HR/Payroll department(s).

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Possess and perform with an executive level knowledge and understanding of the financial, accounting, and operation functions of the organization, and support the President and executive management team in achieving the organizations' vision, goals, and objectives.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Baker Electric, Inc.'s President, operating independently, effectively and within the timelines agreed upon initiatives.
  • Lead the Accounting, IT, Purchasing and HR/Payroll departments in developing the processes and procedures necessary to ensure regulatory compliance within each department, in maintaining proper records, in establishing adequate departmental controls in support of Company operations and to support efforts in compliance with EMCOR's initiatives and structures.
  • Prepare for and participate in monthly project reviews with President, and other assigned leadership, and project managers to evaluate job performance, assess risks and develop action plans.
  • Support operations in managing cash flow on projects, including developing and implementing a credit and collections policy and change order management.
  • Function as an advisor to the President and other leadership on Financial aspects of various contracts.
  • Collaborate with peers and employees to leverage shared knowledge among departments and sister companies.
  • Motivate and advance all direct report employees to ensure alignment with the Company's operational vision and to empower direct reports to perform at even higher levels. Instill an attitude of service in the finance organization.
  • Practice and promote EMCOR and Baker Electric's Code of Ethics, "leading with Character" in conducting business - both internally and externally.
  • Comply with all Company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs as established.
  • Perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the company or as directed by executives.

QUALIFICATIONS. To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Preferred Education and Experience (Knowledge)

  • Minimum 5-10 years professional experience, including progressive senior management positions in accounting or finance
  • Bachelor's degree required in accounting/finance, or related academic discipline; MBA in accounting/finance preferred
  • CPA accreditation preferred
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and contract documentation
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and city regulations and guidelines, including, but not limited to FASB, SOX, IRS and DBA

Required Attributes and Competencies (Skills)

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Excel formulas and formatting
  • Familiarity with Windows based operating systems and web based applications, particularly various accounting applications (life cycle of the accounting and finance departments); previous experience with system conversions or Viewpoint helpful
  • Ability to initiate actions and to deliver on commitments in a timely, accurate manner
  • Ability to work with the highest level of integrity and ethical standards

This role requires communicating verbally and in writing one on one, in small groups, as well as presenting to larger groups of employees.

Requires ability to periodically drive or fly to visit Baker Electric work sites, customer, or attend company events.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
