Oceaneering Space Systems (OSS) is a precision engineering and manufacturing group which specializes in turn-key design, development, manufacturing, certification, maintenance, and testing of extra-vehicular and intra-vehicular (EVA & IVA) tools and equipment for astronauts; including life support and environmental control systems for space; robotic systems for military, space, and biological research; and thermal protection systems for launch vehicles. Position Summary

Perform project engineering and testing functions by supporting development hardware products through research and development, design, procurement, fabrication, test, data analysis and delivery.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • This is a modified full-time role intended for the Fiscal Year only.
  • Coordinate with matrix organizations in support of the above activities
  • Maintain detailed inventory of procurements and parts
  • Generate essential paperwork and documents, such as Task Performance Sheets (TPS), Discrepancy Reports (DR), fabrication/assembly and detailed test procedures
  • Work in a team environment and report to a team lead or project manager for technical support and task assignment
  • Support coordination of design and work with other NASA centers, universities, businesses and subcontractors
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required:

  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and 1 year engineering experience
  • Advanced degree may be counted as work experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines
  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in hardware/software development including mechanical and electrical system design, automation and control systems, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, fabrication, testing/troubleshooting, and office software
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks in order to supporting customer deadlines and schedules and with limited supervision
  • Self-motivated, team player and adaptable to a dynamic environment, and the ability to complete all assignments as required
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products

Requisition Preferences:

  • Experience with hardware design and development and the Engineering Life Cycle process
  • Familiarity with manufacturing methods and design for manufacturability and assembly
  • Experience with design software or automated controls
  • Familiarity with metal/machining fabrication, 3D printing, high-temperature systems and insulation, thermocouples, oxygen systems, welding or electrical harnessing
  • Familiarity with the NASA processes and procedures
  • Co-op or Intern experience at JSC or other NASA Agency
