Your Opportunity

The Production Technical Trainer 1 represents the Smithfield HP current production policy and procedures through the certification program and training and development. This position supports production by communicating new standards and procedures by visiting farms and support departments. This position helps develop future HODs, production trainees, and managers through implementation of applicable training programs.

Core Responsibilities
    Maintains training records.
  • Implements the farm certification program by visiting farms and training/certifying employees.
  • Initiates collaborative training sessions to promote future HOD, Production Trainee and Farm Manager development.
  • Coordinates successful onboarding and implementation of summer intern program for region.
  • Aids in planning processes and implements training programs where needed.
  • Coordinates and communicates with Human Resources staff as well as other departments within region.
  • Assists in community involvement and Smithfield sustainability programs.
  • Participates/communicates information to new hires at orientation.
  • Helps maintain and improve all existing training and development programs.
  • Assists in HR activities (such as functions, trainee networking, etc.)
  • Organizes scheduling and assist in onboarding process of new production trainees.
  • Develops and communicates effective presentations.
  • Maintains excellent communication between training department and production and support departments within Smithfield HP.
  • Reports all environmental issues immediately to their supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Two or four year degree and/or at least two years production experience.
  • Previous experience in training/development preferred.
  • Certification in breeding and farrowing required
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint).
  • Current driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Occasional travel/overnight required.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to review and compile data in order to make decisions.
  • Ability to work with little supervision.
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
  • Must be supportive of the mission of raising swine for human consumption of high-quality pork products.
  • Must be tolerable and willing to learn and perform the following tasks: euthanasia, castration, vaccinations, piglet processing, ear tagging for identification, taking blood samples and other procedures normal to animal husbandry.

  • Must be able to work with and around a wide range of antibiotics (i.e. penicillin).
  • Must be able to tolerate blood, animal dander, manure, dust, odors, and frequently noisy conditions.
