The Public Affairs & Communications Intern works closely with the Public Affairs & Communications Team to assist with a variety of activities and support functions, working independently on assignments and projects. The position reports to the Director and requires approximately 20-25 hours per week with two days per week in the office.
Essential Functions:
* Monitor daily traditional and social media coverage for PCPC and the industry
* Review beauty and trade publications for relevant industry articles
* Monitor NGO activity and communicate to managers accordingly
* Develop engaging social media content and corresponding multimedia
* Track PCPC media inquiries and resulting coverage
* Assist department in designing PowerPoint presentations for various meetings
* Identify opportunities for social and digital media platforms
* Develop biweekly newsletter articles for members as needed
* Assist with various projects per direction of Team members
* Additional administrative duties (filing, updating and maintaining media lists, etc.)
Skills & Abilities:
* Public Relations/Communications major (or related field)
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other programs (i.e., Photoshop, Canva)
* Social media savvy and general understanding of best practices
* Experience writing news releases and press statements (preferred)
* Basic graphic design knowledge (preferred)
