Resumes for Medical Fields
Share
The medical and healthcare fields include jobs that require many different areas of expertise, including physical therapy, clinical research, mental health counselors, and equipment technicians. But all resumes for individuals in the healthcare or medical fields have to:

◾Include specific techniques used and the environment (patient’s home, laboratory, hospital, private facility) in which they were used.

◾List all licenses, professional training, and memberships in medical-related associations.

◾Mention familiarity with relevant federal and state regulatory requirements and industry standards, such as HIPAA.

◾Describe duties as clearly as possible in everyday language—that is, do not let the jargon and acronyms of your field overwhelm the information you are sharing.

◾List relevant equipment and computer programs.

Specifics are vital in a medical or healthcare resume, where a major distinction may occur between very similar sounding techniques, equipment or processes. You need to read a job posting carefully to make sure that your experience truly aligns with the job requirements; then make sure that your experience appears on your resume as stated in the posting.

No matter how technical the job you are applying for, soft skills are also important, such as attention to patient concerns and the ability to communicate with peers. When listing your qualifications, remember to cite your soft skills and any feedback you have received on your critical thinking, communication, leadership, and mentoring abilities.

When formatting your healthcare or medical resume, remember that it will very likely pass through a computer even if you have not submitted it online. As with any resume in any field, the format should be clean and simple, allowing easy reading for both computers and humans. Your qualifications for the medical field position are important, but equally important is the way you present them: in a professional format, with meticulously proofread content and in clear standard English.
