Leaving Your Corporate Job With No Risk
Share
I know you're sitting there telling yourself you would leave behind the rigid corporate world if you knew for sure you'd succeed at whatever you do next. And by succeed you mean make all the money you want to make, be happy, and have no regrets.

Well I really want you to know that you will never know that for sure.

It is not possible to leave where you are now and pursue what your heart desires without there being some risk.

Don't stress. It's OK. Really.

Too many of you have a misguided perception about risks and transitions and I really want you to know the truth.

Here's the thing. There will always be risk. It's how you manage it. There are two things to think about that will help you.

1) How badly do you want what you want?
2) Reframing how you see risk.

Let's take each of these...

How badly do you want what you want?

Have you ever wanted something so badly that you were willing to do whatever it took to get it? Maybe it was snatching up some concert tickets to a "sold out" show. Or maybe you found the house/apartment of your dreams and found the money to make it yours. Or maybe you wanted to change cities and didn't know how you'd be able to...but you did.

When you yearn for something--big or small- AND you know deep down it's going to become a reality, you find a way to make it happen. When obstacles come up and roadblocks get in your way your desire fuels you to overcome.

Any worrying you're doing about the risks involved in a big transition means you need to ask yourself am I willing to do whatever it takes--rise up from any setback--and make my dream a reality.

Reframing how you see risk.

Do you realize that you take risks everyday? Just walking out the door and getting into your car means that you're taking a risk. Every time you eat out you're taking a risk. Getting in a cab means you're taking a risk.

You just are so accustomed to these daily activities that you assume you'll be fine.

Why should it be any different with making a transition from employee to being your own boss?

Our biology is such that we humans don't like change. We fear it on a deep, deep level and generally avoid it because we unconsciously believe that some changes will lead to death.

Seriously! That is what you're subconscious is concerned about.

You're smart, though. You know deep down you won't die by leaving your corporate job.

Also it's not so black or white.

There are shades of risk. That's why entrepreneurs are known for taking risks but they make sure they are calculated or strategic risks!

Today's Action Guide

Let's get you into action, ok?

1. Conjure up a vision of what it would look like for you to be free and be your own boss.
2. Identify one step--one that would be a stretch for you--so that you can be that much closer to your vision.
3. Manage the fear that rises up within you. See it for what it is. Oh and if you don't feel afraid you're probably not stretching yourself :)
4. Take the step.

You have very important things to share with the world. You have a purpose. We need to experience your joy, your gifts, your talents, and your strengths. Our lives will be better for it. Don't let exaggerated fears of what could happen keep you from doing what it is you'd love to do and keep us from experiencing it.

We're all waiting.
